I totally agree with you about this issue. These things need to be told. I'm personally from Slovakia, what is for European standards rather poor country, and need to work hard to earn my living. Thats why it offend me when because I am white some locals see me as walking wallet.
And it is not a matter of poverty (till you are not in area of humanitarian crisis at least). I been lucky to meet very generous people from poor parts of Asia, Middle East and Africa which welcomed me with great hospitality. But when tourists from rich countries embrace this behavioral with tolerating it, it has bad influence on their society and mostly youngsters. But here we are getting to a complicated and complex issue.
What I wanted to say, again, that I welcome that you write also about this and not just unnatural romantic view on live in ,,exotic,, country (from western point of view).
Regarding the equipment, I would welcome some post about your approach to transporting, carrying and hiding your equipment while travelling. No need now, maybe inspiration for the future. Of course if you didnt already wrote about it. I am kinda new follower of your work.

Hey man, thanks for your post. Yeah the part about being taken advantage of is something I felt I needed to share. Mostly because it really started to bother me towards the end of our trip and I wanted to vent it out. :) It's really just more of a pain when you know you are constantly being taken advantage of. Perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive as well because I have lived in Asia for almost 10 years now and know generally how things work, prices, etc. If I was just on vacation for a couple of weeks coming from the States or something it probably wouldn't have bothered me as much. Anyway...yeah I like the 16-35 very much and do shoot at 16 fairly often. The slight amount of distortion doesn't really bother me too much as long as it's not really noticeable. Like you said if shooting a subject in the corner sometimes it can make them appear really out of proportion. I just try to avoid that. :)

Beautiful pictures and interesting post.
The part about being rip of because you are white remind me of my short stay in Thailand. Even I,as you, wanted to go out of touristic spots this attitude was everywhere. Coming from central Europe, what is definitely not that rich west from where locals think I am, I hate when somebody try to overcharge mi because of the color of skin. Its not matter of how rich/poor you are, but about politeness.

Anyway, I need to say that I respect your skills to make so many great wideangle pictures with that lens. Even I have it as well, i try to use it less as possible as I don't like the distortion, mostly if I frame people near corner. My former lens, 14-24 was much better with distortion, but the focal lengh was not so useful.
Will keep checking your post. Thanks again

I always heard Vietnam was beautiful and you certainly confirmed that with your photos and blogs. Thank you for sharing such a journey with all of us. Your photography is so creative and unique, and I am in awe of you. The faces of the people tell us so much about them. Keep up the good work and give my love to Oma, Liam and Amaya.
